Separating the waters

If you separate the numbers of the Fibonacci sequence, you find a repeating pattern of 24 numbers. The sum of this repeating pattern is 117. Also, it references the Golden ratio (1.618) because you can get to the next number in the Fibonacci sequence by multiplying the entry by 1.6.18.

Notice how the yin and yang also appears to be two drops of water that are separated?

The Nine Entities (parts) of A Chinese Dragon

According to Wang Fu, who lived in the Han dynasty, the Chinese dragon is drawn from 9 distinct entities:

Head: Camel
Scales: Carp (fish) 117 scales total - 81 infused with yang, the good, and 36 infused with yin the bad. This evens out the dragons temper and personality. Yang (the number 9 is yang, and 9 x 9 is 81) and yin (the number 6 is yin, and 6 x 6 = 36). 81 + 36 = 117
Horns: Giant Stag (deer)
Eyes: hare (rabbit)
Ears: Bull
Neck: Snake
Belly: Clam
Paws: Tiger
Claws: Eagle

Koi Fish meaning in Japan is good fortune or luck they also are associated with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Symbolic in Buddhism to represent courage. Japanese carp, or koi, as they are called, are said to symbolize fighting spirit, due to their hardy nature. In Japanese, "koi" is a homophone for 恋, another word that means "affection" or "love", so koi are symbols of love and friendship in Japan. The Koi fish symbolize good luck, abundance and perseverance.

It is believed that the Lung is based on the Indian Nagas.


The Nagas were dragonlike beings, semi-devine snakes with human faces and serpents' tails who occupy palaces (Patala), in the watery region under the earth.

They are divided into four classes: heavenly, divine, earthly, and hidden, depending upon their function in guarding the heavenly palace, giving rainfall, draning rivers, or guarding treasures.

In Burma, the Nagas combine elements of the dragon, snake, and crocodile, and give rubies to those they favor; in addition, they guarded and protected royalty. Chinese Dragon Kites were even known to be used in warfare.

The Four Types of Dragons

In China dragons are know as Lung. There are four main kinds of Lung.

The Celestial Dragon (Tien-lung) The Celestial Dragon protects the places of the Gods

The Spiritual Dragon (Shen-Lung) The Spiritual Dragon controls the wind and the rain

The Earth Dragon (Ti-Lung) The Earth Dragon controls rivers, and water on the Earth

The Underworld Dragon (Fut's-Lung) The Underworld Dragon guards precious metals and gems.

In Buddhism, there are said to be 108 earthly desires in mortals, 108 lies humans tell and 108 human delusions.

108 feelings – Buddhist believe there are 108 feelings calculated as follows:

6 Senses (Smell, Touch, Taste, Sight, Hearing and Consciousness)

x 3 Pleasant, Painful or Neutral feelings

x 2 Internally or externally generated feelings

x 3 Past, Present or Future feelings

Therefore, 36 past, 36 present and 36 future feelings = 108

In Yoga, 108 Sun Salutations are often practiced to honor change. For example, to bring peace, respect and understanding at a time of tragedy or to honor the change of seasons.

Tibetans have 108 sacred holy books.

In Jainism, there are believed to be 108 virtues.

108 Steps – Many Hindu and Buddhist temples have 108 steps.

In Japan, at the end of a year, a bell is chimed 108 times in Buddhist temples to finish the old year and welcome the new one. Each ring represents one of the 108 earthly temptations a person must overcome to achieve nirvana.

Lord Buddha is believed to have given a teaching answering 108 questions which are contained within the Lankavatara Sutra (Buddhist scripture).

In Gnosticism, (an ancient Christian religion), it is believed that an individual has 108 chances, or lifetimes to eliminate ego and transcend the material world.

Atman/Soul – In Hinduism, it is believed that the soul or inner self (Atman), goes through 108 stages of spiritual development. In Taoism, the Wu style of Tai Chi has 108 postures. Lord Buddha’s footprint is imprinted with 108 auspicious illustrations. In Islam, the number 108 refers to God.

In the Bible, the words ‘first born’ is used 108 times. The words ‘in truth’ and ‘to forgive’ are used 108 times in the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Angel Numbers – the number 108 is a message of support and encouragement. A cycle in life might be coming to an end but new opportunities lay ahead.

There is a lot of consider here and taking all of this into account, with a simplistic viewpoint, you could say that the auspicious number 108 connects science with human mind, body and spirit.
